Biography:  Laura J. Hilton is the Region #4 Fine Arts Department Chair for the towns of Chester, Deep River, and Essex, CT as well as Valley Regional High School’s Choral Director. She has taught in the Region #4 Schools for 17 years offering classes in AP Music Theory, Vocal Technique, Music History and Musical Theater. She also conducts the Concert Chorus, Women’s Chorus, and Madrigal Consort. Under her leadership, her choirs have received Superior Festival Ratings throughout the Eastern US. When not conducting, Miss Hilton performs trumpet professionally with the Norwich Concert Band, the Silver Cornet Band, The Ivoryton Playhouse, and other venues throughout CT. Outside of the US, Miss Hilton has performed both vocally and instrumentally in Holland, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Austria, and Germany. Prior to coming to Valley Regional High School, Miss Hilton taught band for 3 years in Old Lyme Middle School in Old Lyme, CT and 1 year in the Glastonbury Public Schools in Glastonbury, CT. Miss Hilton holds degrees from The Hartt School of Music in West Hartford, CT, Central CT State University, and a sixth year certificate from The University of Connecticut NEAG School of Education. She is a certified cooperating teacher for Connecticut’s BEST Program, serving as a mentor to beginning educators. Miss Hilton has been very active in the Connecticut Music Educators Association, serving often as band and choral chair for the Southern Region Music Festival. Presently, Miss Hilton is serving the second of four years as Choral manager for the New England Music Festival.
