Biography: Sal Cicciarella has recently retired as Director of Choral Activities at Ellington High School, Ellington, CT. A program involving over 190 students and seven performing ensembles, Ellington High Schools three vocal ensembles have received superior ratings and grand championship awards in festivals through the Eastern United States and Canada. Mr. Cicciarella is very active as a guest conductor, clinician, and vocal adjudicator and has served as conductor of the Vernon Chorale. He holds degrees from the Boston Conservatory of Music, Eastern Connecticut University and has done extensive advanced degree work at the University of Hartford, Hartt School of Music where he is presently Assistant Coordinator of student teachers within the music education department.
He has served in professional organizations of music including on the boards of the Connecticut Music Educators Association, served as past president of the American Choral Directors Association Connecticut Chapter, and was voted by his peers as the recipient of the ACDA CT Chapter 1992 Choral Director of the Year, and has served on ACDA Eastern Division Executive Board for 10 years. He presently serves as ACDA Eastern Division Reading Sessions Chair, and is immediate past American Choral Directors Association National Chair for Senior High Repertoire and Standards Committee. In April of 2002, Mr. Cicciarella was selected as the Connecticut’s Secondary Music Educator of the Year for the Connecticut Music Education Association, and is President-Elect of The New England Music Festival Association.
He continues his work in ACDA at the division level and is currently engaged as clinician, conductor, adjudicator, and leader of teacher development programs and honor performance ensembles in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Missouri, and Pennsylvania and a strong advocate in choral repertoire throughout the United States. He was recently appointed conductor of the Connecticut Children’s Choir Cambiata Ensemble at the University of Hartford’s Community Division, and all male select vocal ensemble.
